Profiles, Tagging, and Arrange Ribbons
The left-to-right workflow: configure standards, run tagging, refine layout.
Last updated: 2024-12-01
The BIMROCK ribbon is organized left-to-right to match a natural workflow: Profiles → Tagging → Arrange. Think of it as Configure → Execute → Refine.
Profiles Ribbon

Profiles are to tagging what view templates are to graphics: a reusable set of rules that control behavior. The active profile determines everything about how Tagging commands work.
Controls
- Create New Profile — Opens the Profile Editor to define a new profile from scratch or copy an existing one
- Active Profile dropdown — Select which profile to use for all Tagging operations
- Manage Profiles Folder — Point to a shared network folder for team-wide standards
- Edit Active Profile — Modify the current profile's categories, placement rules, and overlap handling
Tagging Ribbon

These commands are controlled variants of Tag All Not Tagged—but with automatic arrangement and profile-driven filtering.
Commands
| Command | Creates Tags? | Arranges | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Create & Organize All | Yes (all elements) | All tags | First run on untagged views; full refresh |
| Create & Organize New | Yes (untagged only) | New tags only | Adding tags after model changes; preserving manual edits |
| Organize Existing | No | Existing tags | Cleanup after manual edits; applying updated profile rules |
| Batch Tagging | Varies | Varies | Processing multiple views at once |
Scope Behavior
Selection affects what gets processed:
- No selection → processes all elements visible in the view
- With selection → processes only selected elements (including linked elements if selected)
- Include Linked toggle (Management panel) → controls whether linked model elements are considered
What Happens When You Click
- Autotag validates the active profile and view
- A confirmation dialog shows what will be processed
- The job is queued and the Jobs panel shows progress
- You can continue working while the job runs

Arrange Ribbon

Arrange tools are like Revit's Align/Distribute commands, but specialized for tags. They operate on selected tags only and don't create new tags.
Key Tools
- Tag Selector — Draw a rectangle to select only tags (ignores non-tag elements). Essential for grabbing a cluster to clean up.
- Align Elbows — Align leader elbows to a vertical line you pick. Creates clean "rail" lines in congested areas.
- Sort Cluster — Automatically space and align selected tags as a group. Fast cleanup for equipment rooms and shafts.
Alignment & Spacing Buttons
Small icon buttons for precise control:
- Align Left/Center/Right — Horizontal alignment to a point you pick
- Align Top/Center/Bottom — Vertical alignment to a point you pick
- Expand/Contract Vertically — Adjust vertical spacing between selected tags
- Expand/Contract Horizontally — Adjust horizontal spacing between selected tags
Management Ribbon

The Management ribbon provides access to the Jobs Panel and controls for linked element tagging.
Jobs Panel
The Jobs Panel shows real-time progress of tagging operations. Jobs run in the background so you can continue working.

Tag Linked
Control whether linked model elements are included when tagging:
- Tag Linked — Process elements in linked models along with the host model
- Current Only — Tag only elements in the current (host) model
Typical End-to-End Workflow
Select your profile
Choose the appropriate profile for this view type (e.g., your office HVAC standard).
Run Create & Organize All Tags
Tags are placed and arranged in one pass. Most of the view should look good.
Identify problem areas
Equipment rooms, shafts, and tight duct runs may need cleanup.
Use Tag Selector + Sort Cluster
Select the congested zone and run Sort Cluster for automatic spacing.
Fine-tune with alignment tools
Use Align Elbows or the alignment buttons for final polish.
Move to next view or use Batch Tagging
Repeat for other views, or use Batch Tagging to process multiple views at once.
